CHICAGO HEALTH MAGAZINE
During the summer of 2014, I served as the Digital Design Intern for Chicago Health Magazine. I was also a part of the start up of the interactive iPad version of the magazine in addition to contributing to social media graphics and the print magazine.
BALL STATE WEEKLY
As a part of the Unified Media Design Lab, I served as design editor of the Ball State Weekly, a news-based tablet app. I was responsible for the design of the home page and overseeing the designs of each issue.
DIGITAL DESIGN
So far in my work for the Digital Publishing Studio, I have worked on two iPad applications for the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis: Know Your Dinos and Stories from Our Community. I worked with my colleague Katy Jamison on both of these applications.
Know Your Dinos is an app aimed to immerse children in the Children’s Museum Dinosphere exhibit from their iPad. Through activities for each dinosaur, children are introduced to the dinosaurs at the museum, and they are able to view various artifacts that aren’t always on display. The app is also used as a promotional tool for the museum.
Stories from Our Community is the second app I worked on for the Children’s Museum. This app is aimed to be an organizational tool that showcases the various stories the museum collects from around the community. Through the development, we made the app into a database that mirrored a book, organizing the stories by various topics such as theme and location. On each story page, users can read and listen to a story in the author’s own words.
BALL STATE DIGITAL PUBLISHING STUDIO
In February, I attended the Society for News Design’s Digital Judging competition in Indianapolis. While there, I participated in the first-ever workshop collaboration with Vox Media. During this workshop, professionals from the Vox Product team helped students to design and develop a website for a travel journalism course at Ball State that is going to Cuba. The professionals helped teams of students create type boards, moodboards and wire frames to present to Ryan Sparrow, the professor teaching the Cuba course. I created the following type board, moodboard and wireframes in collaboration with Tyson Bird and Elizabeth Peck.
